Fay

Meet Fay

Fay was one of close to 500 dogs rescued in the largest dog fighting bust in US history in July 2009. She had obvious signs of being used in the barbaric sport of dog fighting when she was rescued. She was missing her lips and also part of her nose. Her teeth stuck out and were starting to rot. It was at the hands of the men who put her into their “sport” that she lost her lips and nose. It was believed that her lips and nose were ripped off during a dog fight and instead of seeking the medical attention she required, the men used scissors to cut off the damaged tissue.

Despite her past life and lack of care, Fay was a loving dog. Her tail never stopped wagging and she loved to meet people and give everyone as many of her toothy kisses as they would let her give.

A couple of months after she was rescued, Fay was placed into the foster home of Gale Frey and Dave Melot with Mutts N Stuff in November 2009. While in foster care, she was given more love than she had ever been shown. She was given the best food and all the toys she could ever want. She even had her own pink Snuggie for trips out to the vet’s office!

Fay desperately needed surgery to fix her nose and lips. She had a total of three surgeries to recreate her lips. She was kept under the watchful eye of the wonderful veterinarian, Dr. Marcy Hammerle, during the week and under the gentle care of Gale and Dave on the weekends. She even made a couple of appearances at a Border’s bookstore during the Christmas season. She greeted everyone she met with a toothy grin (and a kiss if they let her) and a tail that never stopped wagging!

Sadly though, Fay passed on to the Rainbow Bridge on Monday, December 28th, 2009. While her time away from the cruel men who hurt her was short, she had the best care that any dog could have had. She finally got to be a dog and experienced a life she had never known but should have had. Her death was devastating to those who had known her, loved her and cared for her. Fay’s story will continue to be shared and she will never be forgotten.

Mutts N Stuff is accepting donations Fay’s honor and those donations will go to “Fay’s Phoenix House” – a place for dogs who are making the transition from dog fighting to a loving forever home. To make a donation in memory of Fay, please visit www.muttsnstuff.com
